NO FRONTIERS

(far away, beyond all seas, all frontiers, all countries, all beliefs – from Amin Maalouf)

Theme

This exhibition of fractals consists in 16 high resolution frames and invites you to dream along a futuristic journey towards the stars.

All boards are made of about 18 plates carefully stuck, and displayed in environments built specifically, the minimalist structures of which (often fractals by themselves) contrast with the complexity of the images. These surroundings aim at bringing the 3rd dimension to pictures genuinely 2D, and provide to the visitors a volume to move in 3D, either simply flying or piloting vehicles they can find in the entrance hall.  The 4th dimension is also present through components the periodic synchronizations of which beat a slow tempo.

In counterpoint of Metropolis and Wrecks, two of my last exhibitions, «No Frontiers » is inspired by a resolutely optimistic vision. The technology turns into something more aesthetic than enslaving, and the journeys to the outer space are no longer runaways but explorations, as those of real astronauts which will maybe allow to realize one of the dreams of Mankind (and for me its ultimate vocation) : understand the Universe.

How to visit

Comply with the recommended settings for a better visit :
graphics « High »
Advanced Light On (graphic option to check in the graphic preferences)
Midnight mode (recommended, above all at the end), Midday or Sunset (Sunrise mode transforms colors badly in some areas, at least to my taste), or any other mode that you would prefer or try to test, of course
Particles at maximum and at least 4000
Draw distance : 400 m,  useful above all at the end of the visit

Fly (the halls are huge) or better : jump on board a vehicle (X-shuttle two-seats or O-Bubble one-seat) provided in the entrance hall. Once on board, the moves are the same than when you fly by yourself (though mouselook becomes very uncomfortable) : vertical moves with pageup / pagedown keys, and horizontal moves with the arrow keys. Train yourself a little while in the entrance hall in order to pilot easily later. During the visit, you can stand up on the vehicle at any moment, for example to have a better vision, and sit down again to continue but be careful : without a pilot, the vehicle disappears after a 5 minutes delay. You would have then to go on by flying alone. Please notice that O-Bubbles are much easier to pilot than X-Shuttles which are bigger.

Fly from one hall to the following through the circular airlocks and the connecting tunnels (entrance always in front of the fractal while the exit is on the side).

At the end of the visit, fly freely to reach the arrival platform, at height around 560 m and leave the vehicle there. A teleport device leads you back to the entrance hall.
